2017考研英语拓展阅读：奥运圣火迫于抗议压力提前抵达里约

　　The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, carried the torch on its first few laps through the city centre.

　　里约市长爱德华多接过了圣火，作为第一名火炬手带着圣火穿过了里约市中心。

　　But there were chaotic scenes later in the north of the city when the torch relay was challenged by hundreds of demonstrators angry at the high cost of hosting the Games.

　　但是随后在里约北部发生了一些混乱，数百名抗议者冲撞了火炬手，他们因为此次里约奥运的高昂支出而愤怒。

　　Riot police used tear gas and pepper spray to disperse the crowd.

　　Images shown on news websites showed at least one policeman appearing to fire a projectile directly at a protester.

　　It showed crowds of people including many families with children who had come out to watch the torch relay running away in fear from the police action.

　　The police told local media that a group of people refused to leave one lane of the road open for the torch as had been agreed earlier and blocked the street in one place.

　　警方告诉当地媒体说，有一群人堵住了道路上的一条小道，他们没有像早先同意的那样让开这条道路让火炬手通过，还封锁了一个地方的街道。

　　They said they had to intervene to contain the chaos and clear the road.

　　The BBC’s Wyre Davies in Brazil says that this is exactly what Olympic organisers feared might happen after what has been a relatively peaceful and sometimes spectacular torch relay.

　　On Tuesday at least three protesters were arrested by the police in the town of Niteroi.

　　The police used pepper spray and part of the relay had to be abandoned.

　　警方使用胡椒喷雾来对付抗议人群，而且火炬传递的部分路段也被迫取消。

　　Brazil is in the grip of a deep recession and political crisis, and further protests are expected ahead of the Olympic opening ceremony on Friday.

　　巴西正处于深刻的经济衰退和严重的政治危机当中，而且预计在本周五奥运开幕式举行前还将发生更进一步的抗议活动。

　　Organisers say more than a million tickets remain unsold.

　　奥运主办方表示说，有100多万张门票没有卖出去。
