长江是亚洲最长、世界第三长的河流。长江流经多种不同的生态系统，是诸多濒危物种的栖息地，灌溉了中国五分之一的土地。长江流域(river basin)居住着中国三分之一的人口。长江在中国历史、文化和经济上起着很大的作用。长江三角洲（delta）产出多达20%的中国国民生产总值。几千年来，长江一直被用于供水、运输和工业生产。长江上还坐落着世界最大的水电站。

第一句：长江是亚洲最长、世界第三长的河流。第一句是一个系表结构的简单句，其中亚洲最长和世界第三长可以用as well as 来并列，第二次提及河流时可用one替代，避免重复，更加符合英文的表达习惯

The Yangtze River is the longest river in Asia as well as the third longest one in the world.

第二句：长江流经多种不同的生态系统，是诸多濒危物种的栖息地，灌溉了中国五分之一的土地。可以将第一个分句拆解成非限定性定语从句，第二个分句作为主句，第三个分句作为伴随状语

The Yangtze River, which flows through a variety of ecosystems, is the habitat of numerous endangered species, irrigating a fifth of the land in China.

第三句：长江流域(river basin)居住着中国三分之一的人口。这是一个主谓宾结构的简单句，其中“长江流域”可用“its river basin ”不仅避免重复，还体现句子之间的衔接，而“居住着”可以译为动词“home”

Its river basin homes a third of Chinese population.

第四句：长江在中国历史、文化和经济上起着很大的作用。

这还是一个主谓宾结构的简单句，长江一词再次出现可用this river，而“起着很大作用”可用大家熟知的“play a significant role in”

This river plays a significant role in Chinese history, culture and economy.

第五句：长江三角洲（delta）产出多达20%的中国国民生产总值。第五句是个主谓宾结构的简单句，其中多达可用 as much as 来表达

The Yangtze River Delta produces as much as 20% of China's gross national product.

第六句：几千年来，长江一直被用于供水、运输和工业生产。

其中“被用于”可以使用大家熟知的“be used for”但要注意这句的时态，“几千年以来”，用现在完成时

For thousands of years, the river has been used for water supply, transportation and indusrtrial production.

第七句：长江上还坐落着世界最大的水电站。

本句是个主谓结构的简单句，其中长江上是地点状语，可将along the river放置句首，形成全部倒装结构

Along the Yangtze River lies the world 's largest hydropower station.
